FAQ’s

As questions of a general nature emerge we will do our best to answer them here.

Q. Can I enter more than once?
A. Yes. You have an opportunity to have your work recognized in multiple regions and districts and thus, a better chance to advance to the Top100. You may also select one additional category for your artwork (plein air, marine, history, etc), which will provide you with even more opportunity for a medal award.

Q. Does my entry need to represent a park in my state or region?
A. No. Your entry or entries may represent any park in the nation and certain territories as shown by our contest map. We do encourage you to chose a park in your general area. We’ve expanded the competition to include State Parks. They need funding, too.

Q. How do I know what region or district my park is in?
A. You can determine this by  viewing the contest map. Map boundaries run exactly along the state borders depicted in the map (in case our demising line meanders slightly from the borders).

Q. Can I put all my entries on one online application form?
A. No, a separate application is necessary for each artwork entered. You may enter the same piece in one additional category without filling out a separate Online Entry Form. The same image may not be entered in more than two categories (e.g. Top 100 and Historical; Historical and Marine; Top 100 and Landscape)

Q. Where do proceeds from the entries go?
A. All cash awards are paid from entry fees or sponsor donations. Seventy-five percent (75%) of surplus proceeds from entry fees are donated to the National Parks Conservation Association, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit entity that contributes almost $20 million annually to the National Park System or related causes. The remaining 25% of surplus proceeds are contributed to the park depicted in the Grand Prize Winning Entry.

Q. How are judges chosen?
A. Judges are chosen from museum curators, art professors and highly qualified artists and art professionals from multiple disciplines including oils, acrylics, watercolor, pastels, photography and digital art, to name a few.
